EMERGING ISSUES

INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE (IPV)

For many people experiencing intimate partner violence, a health center visit is a rare moment of contact with a trusted provider. That moment matters — and health centers are uniquely positioned to respond with care, consistency, and connection to support.

Preparing Teams to Respond with Care

HPCA supports health centers in strengthening their approach to the prevention and response to intimate partner violence (IPV). Informed by an assessment conducted with our health centers in 2024, this work focuses on closing gaps in screening, response, and coordination — building staff capacity through trainings that help care teams feel more confident and prepared in real clinical settings.

areas of focus

  • Clear, step-by-step IPV screening protocols

  • Person-centered approaches that respect patient autonomy

  • Coordination with community-based IPV partners
