What is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)?

A Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is a community-based health care provider that receives federal funding to offer comprehensive primary care services to the populations they serve. FQHCs serve everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, and often provide services on a sliding fee scale. In addition to medical care, many also offer dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and enabling services like transportation or translation. These centers play a vital role in the community by focusing on access and affordability, especially in rural and medical shortage areas.
