Medicine Bank

We regret to announce that after ten years of successfully channeling surplus, donated prescription drug samples to 27 community health centers sites, the Medicine Bank, a program of the Hawaii Primary Care Association, was closed March 31, 2008.  Increased costs to run the program, coupled with the loss of donated space, made continuing the program too difficult.

The Hawaii Primary Care Association would like to thank its partners in the Medicine Bank for their support over the years: The Hawaii state Department of Health, the medical and pharmaceutical communities of Oahu, the Hawaii Foodbank, and Aloha Air Cargo, Pacific Wings and Island Air.

Community health centers will still be able to accept samples from pharmaceutical manufacturers' representatives, assist patients in obtaining medicines through Manufacturers' Patient Assistance Programs, and will continue to purchase prescription drugs for their patients through the 340B program.

If you have questions about the Medicine Bank, or about current means to assist patients with prescription drug needs, please call Alison Rowland-Ciszek at the 791-7824 or e-mail her at arciszek@hawaiipca.net.
