Kekumuloa Fund

The Hawaii Community Foundation has been endowed with the Kekumuola Fund to provide grants to non-profit organizations and individuals that support the Doula vision of providing emotional care and physical comfort as part of the maternity care team.

The Hawaii Primary Care Association has been awarded a grant by the Hawaii Community Foundation to administer these funds and disseminate information about their availability.

The goals of the Kekumuola Fund are:

  • To establish doula training as a viable means of enabling individuals to become capable and supportive labor companions.
  • To strengthen pregnancy, infant care, lactation and nutrition classes in targeted communities.
  • To promote education or public information about various aspects of perinatal health.

The Kekumuola Fund supports the following activities and services (not necessarily in priority order):

  • Training/technical assistance - supporting participation in doula and related training.
  • Classes - supporting pregnancy, infant care, lactation and nutrition classes in targeted communities.
  • Educational or public information materials - development and dissemination of resources related to perinatal care.

Grants will generally range from $100-400.00 for individuals and up to $500.00 for non-profit charitable organizations.

Requests must be made at least one month prior to the event for which funds are sought.

Only one grant will generally be awarded per year per organization or individual. Grants are made for periods of no more than one year. Second year funding is considered on the basis of demonstrated progress toward and continuing potential for successful outcomes, and potential for future funding from other resources to ensure project continuation.
