HMSA Works to Improve Access to Health Care on the Neighbor Islands

Lucy Jokiel wrote an article for Island Scene magazine detailing HMSA's efforts to improve health care across the state.

"Recognizing that many physicians tend to practice in the geographic area where they complete their residency training, JABSOM began looking for a 'homegrown' way to expand its Family Medicine Residency Program to include the Neighbor Islands. The HMSA Foundation agreed to provide a three-year $535,678 grant to fund and allow time for two family physicians to develop self-sustaining clinical practices and establish an accredited residency program in Hilo."
