The Hawaii Primary Care Association has lost a stalwart partner, advocate, and friend today with the passing of Mr. Christopher Pablo. He was, most recently, a partner with the law firm of Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel, and concentrated his practice in the areas of government relations and health policy law.
Chris previously served as Director of Public Affairs at Kaiser Permanente and Director of Government Affairs for Hawai‘i Medical Services Association. Prior to that he was a Special Assistant to U. S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye.
Mr. Pablo was a frequent speaker at health policy symposia in Hawai‘i and on the mainland on such topics as the Hawai‘i Prepaid Health Care Act, the Hawai‘i Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities Act, medical necessity, the impact of the medically uninsured, and health care reform. He was forever a champion of improving lives throughout the community and fought tirelessly, even through his long illness, to raise awareness of vital issues that affected those who needed an advocate.
Chris was a volunteer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the American Cancer Society, Chair of the Board of the American Cancer Society Hawai‘i Pacific, Inc. and served on the Steering Committee of the Hawai‘i Department of Health Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition. He was a staunch supporter of the Hawaii Primary Care Association and its programs.
Our community has been immeasurably enriched by Chris’ devotion to improving our health care for everyone in Hawai’i, and we join the thousands whose lives have been touched by his work, his friendship, and his contagious optimism. To Chris we wish fair winds and following seas, and to Sandy and their sons we express our shared sadness and our heartfelt condolences.
