KVIBE Manager
Kōkua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services
Kōkua Kalihi Valley (KKV) is currently seeking a responsible, self-motivated and positive individual to manage KVIBE, the Kalihi Valley Instructional Bike Exchange. Through KVIBE, donated bicycles are repaired or refurbished and redistributed to the community; youth who spend time learning to build and maintain a bicycle get to keep the bike they have worked on. KVIBE provides Kalihi Valley youth with mentorship, a positive alternative to at-risk behaviors, opportunities for active living, and job skills training, and instills in them a greater sense of accomplishment, self-confidence, and hope for their future.
Responsibilities: The KVIBE Manager is responsible for overseeing bike shop operations including budget, inventory, procedures, quality assurance and safety controls. S/he directs the work of volunteers, staff and participants; performs bike mechanical repairs; teaches participants about bicycle mechanics and riding safety; and leads community rides and special events.
Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate their capacity for managing community-based programs, including budgeting, and for working sensitively and effectively in multi-cultural settings. Required qualities include strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated dedication to working with youth. Preferred experience includes implementing community-based economic development and/or job creation/training opportunities. Knowledge and appreciation of Kalihi Valley community and cultures is preferred, along with knowledge of community resources.
The bicycle shop manager position will spend most of his/her time at the K-VIBE shop in a non-air conditioned, indoor/outdoor tropical climate temperature environment. Partnership building and outreach work will require travel to other parts of Kalihi, including walking and biking.
